Joan Proctor

One of America's favourite syndicated columnists bound for your bookshelf!
Welcome to my web!

Joan (Cupit) Proctor was born in Vancouver, B.C., where she resided in the Grandview district of that city until she married her newspaper publisher husband, Richard, in 1957. In the years following marriage she juggled four careers: wife, mother of three, syndicated columnist, and co-publisher of The Press, a weekly Sunshine Coast newspaper jointly owned by Joan and her husband for nearly twenty years.

Her humorous view of family life became a newspaper column, Happily Ever Laughter, which was spotted by Inter-Continental Press Syndicate, Los Angeles and, dubbing her 'Joan of Lark', distributed across Canada and the U.S.A. Besides appearing in many weeklies Happily Ever Laughter appeared three times per week in dailies including The Detroit News, Glendale News-Press, The Burbank Review and the Vancouver Sun.

Proctor, who resides on the Sunshine Coast, is mostly retired these days and working on a fourth book regaling the pleasures and pitfalls of small-town newspapering. Her first book, Growing Up In Grandview, was published in 2005.

Joan's first book, Growing Up in Grandview, is the story of her childhood and school days in Grandview, the neighbourhood her British grandparents chose as home in the early 1900's, and where her parents and then Joan and her three brothers grew up.
